Michelino,

If you were truly interested in protecting the environment you would understand that most contributers to this thread are conservationists. The term environmentalist has become a politicized leftist term often derisively used here...

For example many of us oppose Kyoto. Not because as you would assume (deriving your opinion from your previous comments), that we love pollution, but because we see it as bad policy.

China, India and most of south Asia are exempt from Kyoto and are some of the most principal polluters. Take a look at:

nasa.gov

We need massive electrical upgrades in these societies and need to get them off kerosene heaters & stoves, but instead we have environmentalists telling us to spend trillions on cleaning up already pretty clean western countries.

Yes - I have seen all the studies that show how we produce 25% or the worlds greenhouse gases - but you need to study the data. A lot of negotiation happened to make sure only certain gases were measured and a lot of countries don't measure their outputs. It would be much more truthful to state the US produces 25% or the monitored output (with an estimate on what isn't measured). For example particulate matter (such as diesel) is left off (and diesel is very popular in Europe and Asia).

A good study on this would involve a series of conferences held in Brussels, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, London, Santiago, Mexico City, LA and New York.

If you travel abroad - especially in Asia its real hard to swallow the big polluter is the US lie. The only US city that comes close to the pollution of latin or asian cities is LA and its still much cleaner than them. You should travel some.

In the US we have activists suing Ford and GM (or the Govt to force the manufacturers) to decrease emissions when trading in every 10 year old or older vehicle for a brand new Hummer would be much more effective (and cheaper). The Hummer you hate so much is much better at pollution control than any old car - even a subcompact.

Every state in the union has an exemption on pollution control for older vehicles. On newer cars - if you have spent money to comply, but the car is to beat up to meet standards - you also get a by..
