George W, I have, also, witnessed many, and very costly, abuses of Medicare. Yes, the system has failed in policing such abuses, but if the doctor, willingly took money from Medicare, he was, definitely, a crook. It's the same as someone finding a purse on the sidewalk, with the owner's identification in it, and then not making any effort to return the purse, and it's contents, to the rightful owner. It may not be a criminal charge to do that, but it is dishonest, to say the least.

Dr. had come in and bullshat for a few minutes about gardening techniques

From the doctor's point of view, he visited the patient, reviewed his records, and talked with him to see how he was doing. The visit would have cost the same regardless of whether the doctor also made small talk or not. If the doctor did not come to see him, he'd complain about being neglected.

My dad has been involved in protracted litigation - he's on the receiving end - and has had several lawyers because he gets impatient and fires them. A couple of days ago he was complaining that his new lawyer never sends him letters to let him know what's going on, while Lawyer So-and-so sent him letters regularly.

I pointed out that Lawyer So-and-so had charged him for the letters, and he had screamed about that, and that was one of the reasons he fired him.

I think it's just hard to have to submit to the care of others. Personally, I scream about auto mechanics.

Medicare payments to health care providers are very stingy, at least according to the health care providers in my family. My dad, for example, refused to take Medicare patients.
