"If a person has good insurance or vast financial resources, that person will die very, very slowly"

Medicare has great financial resources. Sometimes I wonder how eager people would be to put their loved ones on a vent one more time if they had to pay for it out of pocket. It gets heart wrenching when you watch this happen. Often, the doc is even against the idea, but he/ she doesn't have much choice; has to accept the patient's or family's decision.Changing attitudes about death will probably have to involve the clergy.

And yes, they can die very slowly, and in a lot of discomfort, despite our drugs. think it is probably more painful for the family than the patient.
