This is an understatement. The attacks by the GOP have been outrageous. I can only hope that they are damaging the GOP's rep here in WA state. The Building Industry Association of Washington continues to devote itself to toppling Gregoire. The new governor (and GOP Secretary of State Sam Reed) are taking a pounding from limelight seekers -- the past (Martin Ringhofer), the perennial (Tim Eyman) and the aspiring (blogger Stefan Sharansky). Tim Eyman is the n'er do well who tried to start a tax revolt in WA state. He got one tax cut provision passed and since then has gone up in smoke due to his corrupt and fraudulent ways. At one point he was paying himself $5k every two weeks to run the campaign and not reporting it to the state or his supporters. Sam Reed, the GOP Sec. of State, who has played exactly by the rules........fairly and honestly.......has been under heavy attack from his own party. However, that's changing.......it appears they have moved to a policy of ostracizing him. It looks like he will have to run as an independent or Dem. if he chooses to run again. Historically, even the toughest of Washington's political rivals recognized when elections were over and the public's business needed doing. In Washington, D.C., The Evergreen State's congressional delegation was for years a model of productive bipartisanship -- in contrast to bigger but bitterly divided delegations from New York and California. Our lawmakers drew out wilderness boundaries, brought home military bases (Trident and Everett) and fended off assaults on the Northwest's federal power system. This is the sad part.............the schism that so splits the nation has come home to split WA state. It remains to be seen, however, whether this state's electorate prefers politics as an unceasing contact sport or would appreciate a return to effective government. The state's electorate is tired of the GOP's rantings and ravings. Again, I can only hope that the GOP's image gets hurt by their behavior. ted
