<dismay over the EU's move dramatically to upgrade relations with Beijing>

Anybody with a map, a financial calculator and a passing knowledge of how important China has become to European countries will recognize something that is lost on too many Americans -- we are no longer the center of the universe. Yet our foreign policy is predicated on our being the center of the universe. Something has got to give. Unless the world agrees to put us back at the center -- not too likely -- then we have the alternative of adjusting our policies. Unfortunately, the US, not to mention its President, is not exactly savvy when it comes to foreign policy. Politically, the great predictor of whether or not you support Bush is whether or not you hold a passport. Bush was elected by the core of Americans who have the least awareness of the world and what is going on in the world. The Europeans have seen the future -- Americans have not.

Taiwan, China Agree to Temporarily Lift Five-Decade Ban on Direct Flights Between Two Countries

MACAU (AP) -- Taiwan and China agreed Saturday to temporarily lift Taiwan's five-decade ban on direct flights between the two rivals -- a deal that could reduce tension in one of Asia's most dangerous flash points.

The agreement -- the biggest breakthrough between Taiwan and China in years -- will let passengers travel during next month's New Year holiday without stopping at a third point, usually Hong Kong, as currently required

the US Federal Reserve Reflation initiative is stimulating China
the effect on the USA is increased debt, job loss, and lost control over our monetary policy
