I agree. I think Kerry was a darn good candidate. He was smart, articulate, and seemed like a genuinely good man. He just had some bad luck. Bush's campaign racehorse was the best there's ever been and Kerry's campaign mule was a limping gimp. Very unfortunate.

Having said that, one silver lining for Republicans like me is that we might finally get a little social security reform. I've been wishing that would happen for decades. In addition, we might actually get a permanent marriage penalty relief. Remember, it's Bush who gave us that too. If you're heterosexual and married, that's a big deal. ;)

I think Kerry was a pretty good candidate; the campaign just wasn't run as well as it could have been, and Bush's was one of the best ever.

I hate to say this but I think it had little to do with his campaign nor the candidate. The GOP has made 'liberal' into a bad word while making a concerted effort to appeal to the baser instincts of the American public.......ie tax cuts. They have convinced Americans that a national health plan is tantamount to committing suicide.

I don't think a liberal can win a national election.........at least not for a while. I had hoped that when the GOP overstepped, Americans would react by voting them out of office. But when running against a liberal, sadly, they will 'forgive' the GOP candidate's excesses.

Like you, I never thought we could have a gov't so bad. Making matters worse, many Americans know they put back into office an idiot but they don't care. In their minds, it was better than having a liberal.
