Thx for the post. I knew it was bad under Reagan. I didn't know Bush was breaking records. Argh! Too bad Kerry wasn't elected. One reason why I would have voted for Kerry is that he would have repealed the tax cuts for everyone who makes more than $200K. That would have helped us get back to fiscal responsibility.

A BIG PARTY FOR THE NATION'S BIGGEST SPENDER:

Editorial heading from local paper this morning.

I think the salient bits for me are:

Historically US presidents have favored low key inaugurations during times of war and calamity.. YET

As thousands of our troops battle terrorist in the Middle East and the world continues to reel from one of the worst natural disasters in modern history President Bush is throwing himself a victory party that will make the crowned heads of Europe turn green with envy.

The price tag $ 40.000

The security, however, $17.3 million and out of that $ 5.4 million will be paid from a fund that is dedicated to the city because it is the nation's capital. The remaining $ 11.9 million will come out of the Homeland Security budget.Hey isn't that taxpayer's money ?)

The man who thinks that enacting steep tax cuts and ratcheting up social spending while we are in the midst of prosecuting two expensive wars on foreign soil sound fiscal policy. Just put on the tab and let the grandkids figure out how to pay for it.

Ladies and gentlemen we have elected J.R. Ewing as our president. He is a man who was born into privilege and luxury and has never spent a sleepless night worrying about how he is going to make his house payment or get his kids through college.

He does not appreciate the fact that there are consequences for living beyond ones means and he governs like there aren't any.
Unfortunately for us he's wrong There are consequences though they may be delayed and his enthusiasm for deficit spending will eventually drive us off a cliff financially.

But it won't happen next week. The party will go on expenses be damned.
