There were a lot of reasons for removing Saddam. WMD was just the one that seemed most persuasive at the time. That they were not found does not invalidate all the other reasons, but it does make handy cover for flip-flopping pols.

As for your contention that "Saddam could have been brought down with other measures", that is a wholly baseless assertion. Several members of the security council were actively pursuing an end to sanctions, which would then have enabled Saddam to restart his WMD programs. His intentions in this regard have been well documented.
