Maybe. Sharon is known to be wily. But Sharon, as the architect of the push for the settlements, probably understands most what the settlements have cost Israel. That is the thing about the governed. They expect their leaders to never waver from a course once that course is chosen. But good leaders change their minds occassionally, when they realize that a decision turned out not to be in the best interests of the governed. Based on Sharon's actions, it appears that he has reached that crossroads. He has risked his political career to push his Gaza withdrawal plan. That counts for something.
