Searle: I doubt adding 30 000 more volunteers to the army will have any effect on anything. Certainly the chaos in Iraq won't be answered by 30 000 troops. And 30 000 more won't change the prospects of invading Iran either. There is a big difference between volunteers and draftees. The later open up all the old problems of deferments poor men's sons vs. the rich college boys and the protesters of today have their father's scripts fairly well memorized. 300 000 would bring a new element into the picture.
