Do you think that Merck should not take on any liability for Vioxx? After all, Merck, and not the FDA chose to take it off the market after years of tests which showed it was only somewhat effective (or maybe not even that) while causing heart attacks and strokes in some 27,000 people?

If it weren't for the fear of LIABILITY, Merck would still have it on the market and making $2.5 billion from it. Is that a public good?

You want to go back and live in the 1930s? Go to AFGHANISTAN. That's even further back...somewhere to the Middle Ages. You could even go live with the Amish.

You want to go back and throw out seatbelts and airbags in favor of leaded paint and snake oil? Why? McDonald's had been told repeatedly that the temperature of its coffee was too high and much higher than that of other coffee purveyors. It also had cups and lids which were very flimsy. It wasn't a one time incident.

Heck! Why not let McDonald's put nicotine in its Happy Meals (or caffeine because that's cheaper and unregulated) to get a buzz in kids and keep them coming back in the name of capitalism?

Your understanding of democracy, freedom and capitalism is completely screwed up. Learn something. Think through something. Stop listening to right wing talk radio.
