Hi neolib; I would have been rather surprised if Bush had made a big deal out of banning same sex marriage in 2005. On the other hand, I fully expect the issue to be dragged out every even year. And as long as the abortion laws in this country are left of the center of the American public, those right of center will (successfully) use them to beat up those left of center.

P.S. As long as the court system remains left of center, the population will tend to vote for politicians who are right of center. If the court situation ever reverses, the public will swing (on average) the other way.
