My complex I live in did the same thing last year here in Phoenix.

THey still have enough rentals, but the price to rent our apartment is $1000 a month. If we were to buy it, our apartment base price is close to $320,000!

To me conversions is akin to insider selling in the RE market.

BTW, home prices in PHX have gone ballistic over the last 1-2 years to where in our area of north scottsdale it is just as expensive as the San Francisco bay area in far of median house prices. It was not that way just 4 years ago. However, rents are still very cheap in comparison..
