I have always felt that space exploration and colonization is a moral imperative for our generation. Too bad politicos from the left and the right don't agree. W's ideas are to do it on the cheap which in my mind makes it a mirage.

You and I grew up in the same generation. Each each success and each failure captured our rapt attention. I wanted to be a rocket scientist. Star trek captured our imaginations.

IMO, we have a duty to explore and to colonize those planets which we can reach. Once man has taken hold off the planet, the indomitable spirit of exploration will take hold. Space pioneers will push the envelope and a whole new outward expansion will take place. Nothing would make me a prouder parent than to see my children leading the charge.

Being a space tourist would a great thrill. Being a space pioneer would be a bigger one, but is likely out of my reach.
