Two other major sources of energy in China, natural gas and hydro-power, should be considered. 2004 was the 1st year for West-East gas pipeline become fully operational. This pipeline will send 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the eastern cities in 2005, and this will reduce the demand on either coal or oil. And now they are thinking to build the 2nd West-East gas pipeline.

For hydro-power, as of now 24% or so of all electricity in China is generated by hydro power. By 2010, the goal is 30% of electricity will come from hydro power.

Nuclear power, 2% of electricity in China is from nuclear power now, and by 2010, the target is 4.2% will come from nuclear power.
