According to what Carol Remond wrote, although Elgindy is on tape harassing Paul Brown about his diploma mill education and a conviction he thought Brown had, it's Peters who seems to be doing the extortion:

Peters told Brown Elgindy would need about 100,000 shares and that Fiero would need 200,000 shares to cover their existing short positions in the stock of Nuclear Solutions. Message 20830389

Fiero told Brown that what Peters did sounded to him like extortion and that Brown should go to the FBI. This implies that Peters didn't at all speak for Fiero (unless, of course, once Fiero heard the tape he pretended to be ignorant), and thus I would assume Elgindy's lawyers made the argument that Peters didn't speak for their client either.

So, at least as regards Nuclear Solutions, I don't see any smoking gun evidence of extortion.

I tend to think that either the jury will throw the book at Elgindy or find him not guilty of just about everything... no middle ground. In other words, if the government was successful in getting the jury to view Elgindy as a greedy, power-hungry, manipulative con artist, then they'll find fault is just about everything he did. If, instead, they view him as a greedy, power-hungry, manipulative egotist, then he'll get off easy.

Robert Hansen pleaded guilty, so did Cleveland, Peters and two or three other co-conspirators, yet you think Tony will walk?

Fat chance!

I say 10 years minimum for Tony, and no doubt he will be a rat again to save his aXX.
