<MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Jan. 18 /CNW/ -- Globalstar, the world's most
widely-used handheld satellite phone service and provider of satellite voice
and data services to business, announced today the commercial availability of
Globalstar Quick Locate Service, which enables businesses and individuals to
reliably and affordably track assets that are remotely located or in areas
that are not covered by traditional wireless services.
With monthly service fees as low as $39.95 (CDN), Globalstar Quick Locate
provides an excellent option for companies and individuals seeking a reliable
and cost-effective asset tracking solution. Globalstar saves companies
additional funds and streamlines implementation by including an easy-to-use,
no-cost web tool that enables customers to quickly access location coordinates
of the asset being tracked.
Potential applications for Globalstar Quick Locate include tracking
trucks, containers, machinery and workers in the forestry, oil and gas,
maritime, transportation and mining industries. Additionally, individuals or
government agencies can use Globalstar Quick Locate Service to track the
position of any potentially mobile asset such as vehicles, marine vessels, or
other property.
The high reliability of the Globalstar Quick Locate Service is derived
from a process where each telemetry unit transmits each message multiple
times, minimizing the chance of message failure within the Globalstar Quick
Locate coverage area.
Companies can choose between one of two Globalstar-approved telemetry
products: the Guardian Sentinel, developed by Guardian Mobility Corporation,
and the AXONN AXTracker, developed by AXONN, LLC. These products have been
designed to automatically transmit a 9-byte message of GPS coordinates six
times daily through the Globalstar satellite network.
Globalstar Quick Locate Service and products are designed as a
ready-to-use product and can be purchased directly through any of the 375
Authorized Globalstar dealer locations across Canada. The products can easily
be mounted by customers to the asset that requires tracking or monitoring, or
can be installed by most dealers.
Quick Locate Service is available for Canadian and U.S. Globalstar
customers to track assets in the majority of the following areas: the United
States, Canada, Europe, Western Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and the
North Atlantic. Complete coverage details are available from Authorized
Globalstar dealers.
"Remote asset monitoring has traditionally been expensive and difficult to
implement," said Steven Bell, General Manager and Senior Vice President,
Globalstar LLC. "Now, Globalstar Quick Locate service makes it possible for
both large organizations and individuals alike to easily and inexpensively
monitor the position and movement of virtually any type of asset via
satellite. Anything from a rail car to an RV can be equipped with a device
that allows it to be reliably tracked using a simple web interface."
In addition to providing the highest quality satellite voice services
available today, Globalstar continues to expand its ability to provide low
cost, satellite-based data acquisition tools. Recently, the company made
significant upgrades to the ground- based portion of its infrastructure in
order to provide expanded, reliable coverage for individuals, industries and
government agencies that demand the ability to track and monitor assets in
areas where other wireless options are unavailable or cost prohibitive. ... continued...
