But not by all that much. A Prius would save about 2000 gallons of gasoline over 100,000 miles as compared to a Corolla, or $10,000. That's about the size of the price difference. Europeans are doing better right now with small diesels.

Hybrid cars will get you into HOV (High Occupancy Vehicles) without additional passengers in Northern Virginia area, which is fueling the sales for Hybrid in this region.

The problem now is - there are too many Hybrids and people are hollering to let that statute (of allowing hybrids in HOV with single occupant) expire at the end of 2006 and not renew it in further. Will be interesting to see what happens.

EDIT: I doubt if anyone buys hybrids for gas mileage alone.
