We have no known other means of being more efficient. So you can honestly say that markets are as efficient as we currently can conceive, but they might be very inefficient at best.

You state exactly what I mean. It is a darn good system...one of the best created in the history of man. Remember, my main point was to dispute the accuracy of your statement that our stock market is a ponzi scheme.

Oh and btw, I don't pretend that our market is perfectly efficient and I don't claim that prices at any given moment are a perfect representation of the value of the underlying company. However, again, it is a pretty darn good way of bringing many different sources of information to bear on market pricing, as well as a darn good way of allocating scarce economic resources.

P.S. I'm fairly hard to offend. :) If someone shows me up to be an imbecile through intelligent discourse, then I'm secretly delighted. But when people resort to insults, it's not so much that I'm offended, as that I'm disappointed that the opponent in the debate couldn't come up with something better. Since you have managed to keep your posts civil, I have enjoyed our debate and have a learned a little bit.
