Only self-preservation. Iran has long been known to be the world largest supporter of terrorism. Now that their support of the Iraqi insurgency has put them in direct conflict with our goals there (to establish a free, peaceful Iraq, so we can get out), we have to decide how much we desire to win our objective. If the will is there, then we need to confront Iran to eliminate their ability to support the Iraqi insurgency.

But it doesn't stop there. Iran is dedicated to harming U.S. interests. How do I know this? They publish their enmity of the U.S. in their daily diatribes against the Great Satan in their government sponsored newspapers. So the nexus of their hatred of the U.S., their overt sponsorship of terrorists, and the possibility that they may be on their way to acquiring nukes, all conspire to make them an increasingly big target.

If Iran has learned anything from Saddam, they should recognize that bluffing about their nuke capabilities or even leaving the world with the undeniable feeling that they are hiding something is most probably the WORST course of action they could take. YET, they seem hell-bent on pursuing that course of action, which dramatically increases the probability that Iran is on a military collision course with the U.S.
