>>But somehow America must deal with Iran. This administration's heart may say attack, but its head, it seems, says negotiate. This time the stick may have to be replaced by the carrot - an offer to Iran that combines economic aid from Europe with diplomatic recognition and a relaxing of sanctions by the US. Maybe a grand bargain can be struck. But, in the end, Washington may have no choice but to live with its nightmare: an Islamic theocracy which possesses nuclear weapons.<<

Good conclusion by the author! I have been posting similar viewpoints.

The war party have seen its limits in unilateralism by military force on the world stage after the Iraq invasion and occupation. Logically, under today's international and domestic situation, the war party needs to lick their wounds and go defensive(at least for now and for a while) rather than further offensive. Or they face disastrous consequence.

Many signs today seem to show the war party is moving to the defensive strategy _ unwillingly. Then, again they may have to live with the highly possible reality that Iran or other Israel's enemy nations possess the nuclear bombs in the near future.
