Yes, 'culturally most jews are quite european', and it works the other way as well, to an extent europeans inherit jewish ways of thought as well ... 'judeo-christian values', as you see it expressed so often

Yes, absolutely, 'It's easy to understand Jews wanting to get the heck out of europe after WWII however.'

But, a 'Jewish state'? ... for that you'd have needed terra nulla somewhere, a 'land without a people', and there weren't any of those by the forties, not in Europe or in the Americas or in the Orient ... and i think you have to question the concept anyway, as it is an exclusivist nationalism based on religion and/or ethnicity [take your pick, the choice is debated], rather than a more broadly based civic form, at least striving to be inclusive of the species at large

The afrikaaners don't have a boer state any more, but as long as they act like reasonable human beings, they've got a rightful place in an humanish state.

"And culturally most jews are quite european."

The problem of Israeli ethnicity is far more complex.

"...The Jewish Israeli population differed also in country of origin; the population included African-Asian and European-American Jews, and native-born Israelis, or sabras (see Glossary). In the oldest age-groups, those of European-American provenance, called "Ashkenazim," predominated, reflecting the population of the pre-1948 era. By the early 1970s, the number of Israelis of African-Asian origin outnumbered European or American Jews. In Israel, immigrants from African and Asian countries were called either Orientals, from the Hebrew Edot Mizrah (communities of the East), or Sephardim (see Jewish Ethnic Groups , this ch.), from an older and different usage. It was not until 1975 that the sabras outnumbered immigrants...."

A leading Danish commentator(who is Jewish and lives in Israel) has pointed out that the eastern(oriental) Jews are now in a majority and are one of the major political powers in Israel. Their approach to the Palestinian problem is quite different to that of "European" Israelis since it is based upon their experiences in Arab countries.

Israel/ethnic groups: "Jewish 80.1% (Europe/America-born 32.1%, Israel-born 20.8%, Africa-born 14.6%, Asia-born 12.6%), non-Jewish 19.9% (mostly Arab) (1996 est.)"
