JF, That doesn't change the discussion on how to "rescue" SS, except to make the $2T cost of partial privatization even more onerous.

Once again, it's the mentality of the profligate spender. "Hey, we already spent $40,000 on a car, why not an extra $5,000 on rust protection?"

My feeling is that Bush has that sort of mentality. "Hey, SS already borrowed $1.5T and called it a 'trust fund.' ( ssa.gov ) Why not borrow an extra $2T to pay for the cost of privatization?" OK, I'm fine with that as long as we're taking real steps to pay down the existing debt. Oh, wait a minute ...
