Phil > I have read that the average American family is indebted about $500,000

Doesn't make sense. I understand the US government debt is something over $7 trillion. It there are three people in a family, that would make 100 million families and the debt then works out at about $70,000 per family. $500,000 would put US government debt at around $50 trillion.

As you say, the economy couldn't be better. Debt is forgotten. No-one even mentions it. Soon they'll pass legislation which makes anyone who talks about the US debt to be subject to indefinite inprisonment without trial.

Apropos the Japanese economy, I have to say I don't have much knowledge on the subject but I would think, with the Yen strengthening against the USD, it can't be all that bad.
