How about a simple desire to gain support for policies they believe to be good ideas, regardless of the truth about global warming? I'm sure that's not an uncommon motivation on both sides of the debate. Or many other policy debates, for that matter. One should not unquestioningly accept the claims of either side just because one finds their policy prescriptions otherwise more palatable.
