Actually, Friedman was quoting an Iranian Oxford student who had traveled to Iran to meet with some students. So it was not spin by Friedman. At best, if you're looking to discredit what Friedman said, you can say that this was anecdotal evidence and may not represent the views of the whole population of Iran. However, I recognize that students do usually lead the charge for reform, as you have said, therefore, I give this Iranian Oxford student some credibility in getting to the heart of those Iranian students he spoke to.
