Ah ha...you miss the point. The point being that extravagant parties in a time of war should be looked down upon, regardless of the party in power.

I'd make the same criticism of Kerry had he launched into a grand party in a time of war, natural disasters and rising deficits.

FDR had it right. Now who will be the next man of substance over extravagance? We may have to wait a while for that one.
