Jim, We were down over Thanksgiving looking at property for my parents (and my family someday). We looked around Lake Arenal and La Fortuna as we like the up country and jungle (3 1/2 hours north of San Jose). My parents expectations are for a 1,000 - 1,200 sq ft cinder block/plaster home. Very basic but up to modern standards. There are Gringo homes for $500k plus but that's not what we were looking at. By the way, Lake Arenal is popular with the Germans. Several places we stopped the folks could speak english and german. I must look German to the Ticas because two times they started right in and lost me... Michael
