Well, I'm still not beyond saying that Iraq could've been a good thing -- IF we had done it correctly. It's completely screwed up now and I see no way we can win.

Friedman is just slightly behind that curve, and still sees a little bit of an opportunity (though he concedes that he might be kidding himself). He clearly knows a lot; I haven't decided whether or not I agree with him on Iran. I'm not sure it matters.
