Yes, it's a huge free lunch paid for by the Middle Class. Diverting money to personal accounts will cut into that free lunch, which is what the liberals are so up in arms about.

SS is a payment transfer system. Another description would be ponzi scheme In most countries ponzi schemes are illegal. In the US we let the government run it.

Payments from workers are transferred to retirees. It may have worked when the ration was 12-1 and retires lived just a few years. When it is 1-1 and retirees live 25 years, it is an unfair burden on current workers. It appears that we have to force people to save for their own retirements.

You might think that Democrats would love the proposed reforms. It allows government to dictate to people what to do. It gives government bureaucrats control over a large portion of the stock market. Instead they are fighting against improvement (apparently because it is being championed by Republicans).
