Snow, I agree. Rebar is a medieval anachronism. I feel like Rip Van Winkle, having pointlessly learned how to distribute moments around beams and columns in multi-storey reinforced concrete buildings.

There would be a significant saving in dead-weight, enabling taller carbon-fibre reinforced concrete buildings = more office space for a given mass and hence offsetting the extra cost.

Size is a cubic function with height - hence an elephant needs legs the size of tree trunks whereas a little antelope can have spindly little legs and an ant can carry a big load on really spindly legs. A giraffe gets height by having a long neck, holding up nothing but a head, like the CN Tower.
