>Dave & Bob owed NO one anything<

You may be correct there .. however SI owes me the ability to post messages as long as I do not violate the TOU. I paid for this right.

highlighted: SI is the "person" that owes me.

Pine Valley,
they had a successful board going on over at IHub, could have closed SI down, but chose not to.

I doubt seriously that SI was kept going for any altruistic reasons... They'd be pretty poor businessmen or independently wealthy to do so I'd reckon..

More likely:
I'd guess based on their prior experience... Mgmt were convinced a mass migration to iHub would not happen and overall iHub would not gain all that market share instantly... Many folks actually prefer the community or whatever intangible quality there is here on SI. Witness when SI was blacking out before and many registered on iHub... most returned when SI stabilized (as soon as SI stabilized actually)...

And also how could iHub even of managed that mass migration without some compensation to at least maintain level of service....

as to the whining well yeah... obviously most folks don't really care... they don't use many of the features... I ponied up for the upgrade because I wanted the Advanced search and I like the filing ability (actually the filing of public posts is a free enhancement)... There are things that bug me... if it gets to crappy I'll walk... that's business.. OTOH SI cannot be expected to continually upgrade and maintain hardware on fixed lifetime subscriptions.... that's reality..

I still think it's best viewed as a driver's license model... technically there may or may not be a contract explicit or implicit but that really doesn't matter now...

I say let's nag them for a nice balance of new free and paid for upgrades and maybe a better method of pay for what you want features....

well that's my 2 cents (Canadian at that)... FWIW

regards
Kastel
