The only "agreement" in effect on this site is the one we commonly call the Terms of Use ("TOfU") and it's binding on our users; not us. The short version is that for the privilege of using the site, users agree to abide by our rules or risk loss of those privileges. Purchase of a subscription doesn't change that. So then .. you claim you are charging folks for nothing at all .. I don't think so. I think you charge people for real things. And whatever those things are that you have people pay for, they should expect to receive. In fact I believe that you are required to give people what they pay for. When you sell something to someone, they own that which was sold to them. BTW thanks for all of your work.

Maybe its the semantics that are getting in the way. Subscription and Membership are 2 different things. When we paid for a lifetime membership it was different from a term or limited subscription to the website. We didn't pay to get our subscription renewed each year, we paid to be a lifetime full access member. If SI had a donation drive to generate funds to improve the website, I would have been glad to donate my $20 to the cause. In light of this point, I went ahead and bought the upgrade. However, I still firmly believe it is wrong to charge paid, lifetime members any additional fees for site usage and enhancements.
