My point is that it took as many years to rebuild and stabilize Germany and Japan, yet everyone expects Iraq to miraculously heal in only 2 years time. It's ludicrous. If peace in the Middle East is possible, it will only come at great cost. Many on this thread clearly aren't willing to pay it.

But I am. I think my kids will benefit from a peaceful Middle East, which the whole world will benefit from, which is I think it is worth the cost in American lives and in the money we are spending. I don't care if they never end up liking us. If they end up peaceful and happy in the Middle East, then that is enough.
