Asians do better across the board because of a "nurture" that pushes study. Any skill can be made better by it. But we all start with different talents for various skills. So some start from a higher innate talent and end up higher.

Testing strongly indicates that Asians have a better innate talent for math. And that men have a better innate talent for math than women.

So what? A lot of women, due to talent and/or skill, will end up doing better at math than men or Asians. But it still means that, as a group, you will see less female science profs than male.

That is what Summers was pointing out. And for that he gets PC/d.

I think the success of Asians is due to the nature of who from Asia gets here. If you take the elite of any group and transport them into the full spectrum of population of another group - it is only natural that the elite will excel.

A friend of mine was with a state education department not long after the first wave of Cubans arrived there. The schools in the Cuban communities were invariably the top schools in the state. No one thought that Cubans were inherently more intelligent than everyone else. It was that the first wave of Cubans who left were the best of the best and cultured for success.

It may be that women and men are wired differently for math. Perhaps at some point we will have the data to draw that conclusion.
