We catch lots of ling cod out here although in most areas they are protected and are catch and release only. On the west coast of the Island and parts of the Strait of Juan de Fuca we can keep them if they are over 62cm. It's not uncommon to have a smallish, up to say 6-8 pound salmon on the line, and have a big ling grab it, they don't let go until they are in the boat and even then it's sometimes a struggle. Very tasty.
