Most US oil comes from West Hemisphere, Venezuela being a major supplier. By making Venezuela governable, Brazil is helping the US. Note how Condoleeza was full of praise for Brazil in her inaugural speech. I'm thinking here Lula help Venezuela be governable and thus keep oil flowing to the US and he says: "Get Zoellick out of trade negotiations". Condoleeza said: deal. And she did it.

If not for Brazil, and its enforcement of the OAS- the country had already collapsed. It is not in Brazil's interest to give a reason for the US to interfere beyond the Rio Treaty guidelines.

The OAS Rio Treaty should be kept intact by any rate. Remember the Falkands/Malvinas conflict between Argentina and the UK?
We stepped aside. It was against Rio Treaty that states. Any dispute within the western hemisphere should be dealt by the diplomacy and not resorting to the use of force. The last thing we want is to go to other people's throat.

You can't imagine how skilled our diplomats are. (Don't MQ he thinks we are thugs :-) Look where Zoellick is now.
