There were kids 'taken away' to residential schools when mandatory education regs were more widely applied to include kids far from population centres, administration of this was handed over to churches who managed it reasonably well in some cases, not in others, cases of paedophilia were not unknown, for one thing, even without that a lot of kids were lost in the new culture, for sure it was a Whackenstaat to those who were early on beaten for speaking their native language

There were also some kids taken away for real, permanently, and adopted out into white families, a few of them without any parental consent at all, even without the mothers' knowledge in a very few cases, the reasoning was most often given as alcohol abuse ... none of this has happened for a long time now but it remains a deep shame

All in the name of assimilation, which is a fine thing when voluntary and an evil when forced ... some cultures do die, they're too small or weak to survive, stronger ones can prevail in a sense through influence on a new culture ... change is just the way things are, as they say ... most important thing imho is that all people should be equal under the law, which should leave them to their own g.d. business as much as possible .... cheers
