<so why don't YOU explain how no "centrist" candidate got through the Dem primaries> Who did they have? The Dems committed political suicide when they agreed to back the war in a misguided and unprincipled attempt to win mid-term elections. Dean was too far outside the power structure of the party and the Dems again preferred to believe that a candidate who stands for nothing is more electable than a candidate who stands for something. But stands for what? For the Center, and for the Center a candidate who stands for nothing will not suffice. If the Dems had opposed the war or at least supported it only on condition the UN was onboard, then their candidate would be in the Oval Office today.
