I think we still do not appreciate the size of the effects of small (ie 2 degrees +/-) in the angle at which the earth rotates around the sun and the resultant impact on areas such as the poles. The amount of light that reaches certain areas in winter can be dramatically reduced.

Personally, I've noticed the planet seems to be about two degrees out because when I walk across me living room floor it is at an incline. (Or maybe that is a result of the excessive rain in the Pacific Northwest and my home is about to slide into the creek off our backyard)
