Yep. That's the way my father pronounces it. Texans born before the early 1950's tend to pronounce it that way, not so much afterwards. There are also a lot of regional variations. As TP notes, Bush doesn't talk like someone from Midland, which would be different than, say Beaumont. I haven't been to Midland, so I have to take his word for it.


I find it a bit amazing that there are regional differences. Usually, when there is a difference, its usually between a particular city and the rest of the state, and not between different regions. For an example, New Orleans vs the rest of LA or NYC vs. upstate NY.
