Neolib, Dems seem to favor "freedom FROM religion" as you note. However, Reps are increasingly in favor of "freedom FOR religion". We do indeed need simply "freedom OF religion".

That's true, but the problem is that there are many aspects of society that are publicly funded. The classroom is a prime example, as you noted. Anything attached to public funds is going to be a hotbed of contention, especially between the religious and the secularists.
