Listen closely to what Paul Ottelini stated about Smithfield at Intels Analyst Day back a while (not sure if the stream is still archived though). I am refering to these key comments (in Q&A)

"Smithfield Diesize is very manufacturable".
"Expect packaging costs to go up significantly".

Some underlying economies are outlined in simplification in this thread: siliconinvestor.com

And in slide 28 (iirc) of the presentation force your eyes away from the pictures to the commentary. (The slide has been edited a day after the presentation or so, some lawyer might have gotten cold feet with the original version).

After that, you should be able to make your own mind about what kind of animal Smithfield is.
