Why am I not surprised that you don't mention the other possibility, that the US is making every effort to precisely target military and avoid civilians?

If anyone believes that the war has caused 17K casualties, i have a bridge for sale.

At 17k dead out of a total population of 24 million, it seems to me that either our bombs are not that effective, or Iraqis have a knack for getting out of harm's way.

Why am I not surprised that you don't mention the other possibility, that the US is making every effort to precisely target military and avoid civilians?

Because Brian, I don't believe them. Time and time again, it has been shown that what the gov't has said and what the reality is are often two different things.

Having said that, the number of dead Iraqis may be between 17K and 100K. If the lower number is the reality, then it is possible that the military was successful in its specific targeting of military operations.
