It's devastating for his family, I'm sure, and maybe those gloating over Elgindy's downfall should be aware of the effect on them.

I can only hope the energy expended by Breen and the government in this prosecution is matched by their energy in future in pursuing the many egregious pennystock frauds currently being perpetrated with no apparent current interest by the SEC or Justice Dept.

He probably wasn't thinking at all. You're right: he didn't need Royer. He was a talented trader, and apart from that, at the time you could short pretty much any tech stock and expect a good return.

I suspect it's partly about ego, and partly about insecurity. The two often go together.
