The abstract supports this: poor gross proxy for the social and economic factors that disproportionately affect racial minorities but it said nothing about this: it is also a poor gross proxy for genetic variation at the cellular level BTW, the paper linked was based on smoking. I would have chosen alcoholism as perhaps a better test of the theory that genetics is a poor gross proxy...

The real cause is the low ability which leads to the social and economic problems in a negative feedback loop. Talented individuals can almost always escape their privations. Chinese have always been a minority in New Zealand and they have always done very well [on average]. They have ability, and good standards and have done well, without any support at all. Maoris, a feather-bedded minority, are treated as demi-gods and get all sorts of handouts, but life is hideous for many of them thanks to the lifestyle their parents choose. It's nothing to do with "minority". It's to do with ability and culture. The unmentionable is intelligence. Even Native Americans can do well. They are a minority. Even if they are women. They can even become lawyers and live in Washington. No minority in the USA is stomped on sufficiently to stop them doing anything they like. Nor are they here. Blaming "minority" is avoiding the real issues. Your comment about "gross proxy for genetic variation at the cellular level" is where the real action is. That's what we are. Mqurice
