I've thought about Bush's walk loudly, carry a big stick, and use it often policy. There are a lot of negatives, for sure, but one positive that I can see is that it sure has the Middle East countries shitting bricks. Frankly, I believe with much of the modern world negotiation and civil discourse is a viable option. However, with tyrants like Mullah Omar, Osama, Khamenei, Saddam, and Arafat, no negotiation was or is possible. Khamenei may yet prove me wrong, but he has a long sordid history himself. But who knows? I would have never guessed that Gaddafi or Assad would start to cooperate with the U.S. So maybe the more astute tyrants are guessing that they'd better start towing the line or they will find themselves in prison like Saddam.

That is exactly the way I'd want these tyrants to feel, if I were President. The alternative is business as usual where they act with impunity under the table and lie to our faces above the table.
