I agree with you about demonstrations. They can become dangerous. No place for children.

I hope they serve a delicious assortment of cookies and fruit punch at their monthly meetings!

Sometimes we have cookies and sometimes we have cake. Occasionally we have both, but then there are the sad nights we have nothing because no one could make up her mind in time which to serve.

The programs are fun; we have debates on current issues. The same person argues both sides. Then we have a vote on who won. It's usually a tie. We have to vote fast or people start changing their minds. In fact, during the election season, we offered lapel pins for both candidates and often in the middle of a debate people would jump up and exchange their pin for the other guy. The oldtimers, the real Grey Ladies of which I am one, just wear both and forget about it.

We welcome new members. Grey is rather out of style, which is too bad because I think people are losing the ability to hold opposing ideas in their heads and consider the merits of each.

On the other hand, we have been meeting for thirty years, and still haven't been able to have a vote on an official name for the group or elect a president.
