<This is a line of unreasoning that is often used by meat eaters in an attempt to make vegetarians look ridiculous.>

It is also a line of reasoning vegetarians use to find another reason to be a vegetarian! ;-)

Like me! I respect the animal/plant argument and it is reasonable and factual. It wasn't my reason for being a vegetarian, though I respect those that feel that way. I always thought the Buddhist monks wearing gauze to prevent harm while trodding on insects was ironic. One simply can't go through life without creating some harm and the only honest way to do it is to try to consciously minimize it. My philosophy is to find the leverage points. This is why I plant native species on disturbed land. Literally 100's of oak trees are growing due to my personal efforts. I have oak furniture and unless I'm planting oaks, my guilt won't let me sleep.

Again, I respect your concern over Teflon, but there really are much bigger fish to fry (no pun intended) and we better get our scientists and engineers working on the problems. All the hemp clothing in the world won't get us out of our jam.
