I don't see diversity as a strength either. I wish I had a better understanding of those who say it is.

Maybe I missed something - did some government body make recitation of this pledge part of the mandatory morning routine of seven year old school kids?

BTW, I don't think elementary school is too early to teach kids about having respect toward all people. Do you know that the word "gay" can be used as a slur even by kids who have no idea what it means for someone to be homosexual?

As for whether diversity is strength, I think it is tolerance for diversity, not diversity per se, that brings strength. Intolerance breeds only more intolerance, discrimination, oppression, hatred and conflict.

But I do agree that some employers, in particular, go overboard with their "diversity training" and such. I attribute that - the extremes, not the basic notions - to fear of law suits.
